Gerd Pircher has been appointed Regional Head, Latin America, for HSBC’s Global Trade and Receivables Finance (GTRF) business, with effect from 1 February 2014.

Commenting on the announcement, James Emmett, Global Head of GTRF said: “I am delighted to welcome Gerd to the GTRF team. Latin America is playing an ever greater role in international trade flows and Gerd will be building on the strong foundations we have in the region, to help our clients make the most of the undoubted opportunities.”

Gerd will be based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Reporting functionally to James Emmett and regionally to Eddie Norton, Head of Commercial Banking, Latin America, he will also join the GTRF Executive Committee.

Gerd joined HSBC in 1995 in the Middle East. A fluent Portuguese speaker, he previously managed the Brazilian Trade Finance operations. During his 19 years at HSBC Gerd has held a number of roles in Commercial Banking across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, and is currently Head of Strategy and Planning for HSBC’s Europe business.

Wei Wei Ng has been appointed Head of International, GTRF Asia Pacific, with effect from 15 February 2014.

Commenting on the appointment, Simon Constantinides, Regional Head of GTRF Asia Pacific said: “Wei Wei has played an important role in successfully developing HSBC’s Malaysian trade and receivables finance business. Her experience in  this fast-growing market will now be vital in supporting HSBC’s clients trading both across Asia, and globally, helping them to grow their business – and deliver our strategy of international connectivity.”

Wei Wei replaces Quang Huynh who was recently appointed as Head of Commercial Banking for HSBC Indonesia.

Currently Head of GTRF for HSBC’s Malaysia business, Wei Wei will be based in Hong Kong and will have responsibility for supporting the development of clients’ international business across nine GTRF sites (Taiwan, Korea, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, New Zealand, Brunei, Japan, Thailand and The Philippines). She will report to Simon Constantinides, Regional Head of GTRF Asia-Pacific.

Lorna Strong has been appointed Deputy General Counsel for GTRF, with effect from 1 January 2014.

Commenting on the announcement, James Emmett, Global Head of GTRF, said: “I am delighted to welcome Lorna to the GTRF team. As well as acting as the primary legal advisor for GTRF’s operations globally, Lorna will play a key role in shaping HSBC’s contribution to current regulatory and policy debates on trade finance.”

Lorna will be based in London and reports to Jonathan Peplow, Global General Counsel, HSBC Commercial Banking. She has also joined the GTRF Executive Committee.

Lorna joined HSBC Canada in 2001, as Senior Legal Counsel and became Deputy General Counsel in 2007.

HSBC is the world’s largest trade finance bank, according to Oliver Wyman’s Global Transaction Banking Survey 2012, with a 10% market share of bank-financed trade revenues. In the full year 2012, HSBC reported annual GTRF revenues of US$3.5bn.
